Studying the atmosphere in West, Texas

The explosion at West, Texas, was in the evening. Look at the light in the sky:

Always listen to your instincts. Ask yourself if the things that you’re being shown seem reasonable. “Does this pass the sniff test?”

I satisfied myself that the video is feasible.

The Associated Press reported that the explosion was “just before 8 p.m.” Texas is in the Central timezone, but travelers know that the sun doesn’t set at the same time all over one timezone. So, just to be sure, I looked around.

Daylightmap.com gives us a sense of the lighting situation around that time.

Sunset was at 7:59.

And it’ll be a long time before you forget the child in that video. (NBC 5 in Dallas reports that they were both unharmed.)
