ESPN is no longer alone. Fox Sports has been around for a long while. Now NBC and CBS have recently gotten in on the television act. But ESPN, which has dominated the radio sports industry for years — if you had a sports station, you were probably an ESPN affiliate — is about to find a new problem.
Cumulus, one of the largest radio station owners in the country, is dropping ESPN from 47 stations and adding the CBS network. CBS Sports Radio will be on about 100 stations and potentially reach into 10 million households when it launches in January.
